DON'T GIVE UP THE RIGHTEOUS CARBS!
Fruit is a case in point...

Do cherries, pears, and plums deserve the report card as croissants and bagels and white rice? I heartily think not! If youıre watching your carbs, please reconsider fruit.

Fruit is wonderful food nutritious, gorgeous, sensual, easy-to-eat. And this is the time of year when the produce markets are starting to overflow with many fantastic varieties of berries, stone fruit and melons. Yet despite fruitıs many attributes, fewer than half of all Americans eat even one serving a day.

I'm wondering if fruit consumption is taking a hit in this well-intentioned, but often off-the-mark low carb culture. It the current popularity of low carb diets is encouraging people to forego fruit, that would be a sad story. I mean, how could a fresh peach or a bowl of blueberries be ³bad for you?² What have we come to? Lest I lament to heavily, let me simply give you some inspiration and perhaps heighten your awareness, so you can begin including more fruit in your daily routine.

Here are some things you can easily do:
  • Remember to buy it!
  • Always carry some with you. (added benefit it is heavier than a Luna Bar, so you can get more of a workout from just schlepping it)
  • Think fruit as you cook. (Replace cream sauces with tropical salsas; add raisins and apricots to stuffings and rice; grill firm peach and nectarine halves to serve as appetizers or side dishes.)
  • Accessorize it for dessert. (Dunk strawberries in chocolate syrup; sprinkle minced crystallized ginger into a bowlful of melon chunks, drizzle berries with vanilla yogurt)
