If you are lucky enough to find a nice, big, sweet crop of reasonably-priced fresh strawberries at the farmers' market, buy a whole flat of them! Then, when you get home, freeze at least half of them and you will have the makings for these fantastic summer thirst-quenchers.

To freeze strawberries, simply hull them and wipe them clean with a damp paper towel. Lightly spray a big tray with nonstick spray, and spread the clean berries on the tray. Freeze for about 30 minutes, or until the strawberries are quite solid. Transfer the frozen berries to a heavy zip-style plastic bag, and use as needed. This method allows them to freeze separately, rather than in one big clump.
Icy Strawberry Slush

20 frozen strawberries
4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
4 teaspoons sugar
Lemonade to taste (optional)
  • Place the strawberries, lemon juice, and sugar in the blender and blend until slushy. Add small amounts of lemonade as desired or needed to keep the blades moving. Serve right away, in cups or bowls, with spoons.

Strawberry Liquado

20 frozen strawberries
1/2 cup milk (possibly more)
1 tablespoon sugar
  • Place everything in the blender and blend until smooth. Add more milk as needed or desired to keep the blades moving - or to thin to preferred consistency. Pour into glass (or 1 glasses) and serve right away.
